The focus here is Broadway musicals -- however, select opening dates for major off-Broadway shows, as well as productions in London and other cities are included. Each show is listed with it's title, opening date, theatre, plus total number of performances and previews.

There have been thousands of musical films in various languages, and it is impossible for us to account for all of them here. This chronology includes over 500 American productions, plus some major British titles. While most are included because of their artistic or commercial importance, a few have been included for the sheer camp value.
